Why is my stone inconsistent in colour ?

Sandstone, Travertine Slate, Limestone and Granite are products of nature and have been quarried from all over the world. As natural products, they are prone to variations in colour, texture, shade and veining that may differ from the samples shown. Variations in natural products are not considered flaws of natural stone but may occur as a result of the type of stone being used, as well as the current quarry conditions. These differences and variations in the stone should be considered as the beauty of natural stone instead of flaws. No two pieces of natural stone are alike. Always request samples of present stock as variations in material may occur without notice.

Do I need to seal my paving?

Yes, paving is exposed to the elements, therefore, they can fade, grow mildew, or become stained by rust, dirt, and other items. The sealer can help to prevent stains and other signs of aging.

The weather can also affect the paving, without a sealer, moisture can enter the porous surface of the paving, if the water freezes in cold weather conditions, it can expand and crack the paving. Sealers help prevent water from settling and causing damage. Overtime the sun can also fade the colour of paving slabs.

What do I need for my stone paving project?

Firstly, the ground you wish to pave has to be prepared, removal of grass and soil. Approximately 2" - 4" of hardcore eg. 804 is required. We recommend laying the paving itself in 2" of sand and cement.

Now the fun starts! Measure up your area and then you NEED to call out and see our display area in Ardrahan (H91 CYW8) and pick from our large selection. You'll also need grout for jointing. Sealers are also stocked which we would highly recommend.
